CVA Celebrates Women in Conservation on International Women’s Day 2026

In celebration of International Women’s Day this year, which takes place on the 8th of March, Conservation Volunteers Australia recognises Women on Country and invites everyone to take part in our Women’s Day events.

International Women’s Day is a global occasion recognising the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also serving as a call to action for gender equality

This year’s theme, Give to Gain, encourages a mindset of generosity, collaboration and shared support. It highlights the power of reciprocity, when people, organisations and communities give generously, opportunities grow, connections strengthen, and outcomes for women improve.

Each year, CVA celebrates International Women’s Day with events taking place across the country. Find out more below about upcoming events near you, and get inspired by our incredible CVA project officers and how they’ve celebrated IWD in the past

Celebrating Women on Country in Australia this IWD

International Women’s Day is also a beautiful opportunity to proudly celebrate Women on Country, acknowledging the vital role women play in caring for, protecting and sustaining Australia’s natural and cultural landscapes.

Women on Country refers to the enduring and deeply rooted connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have with their traditional lands and waters. For tens of thousands of years, Indigenous women have acted as custodians of knowledge, culture and care, maintaining strong relationships with Country that continue to guide land and sea management today.

International Women’s Day is also an opportunity to celebrate all women working in conservation today. From wetlands and coastlines to bushland and urban environments, women are leading projects, supporting volunteers and driving positive environment change nationwide.

In the spirit of Give to Gain, this International Women’s Day we invite everyone to recognise, support and celebrate women’s leadership in conservation and caring for Country, strengthening our shared commitment to an inclusive and sustainable future. We cordially invite you to attend a CVA event in your area in celebration of IWD.
