Women’s Weaving Workshop: Weaving Culture, Craft and Connection for NAIDOC

We celebrated NAIDOC with a women’s weaving workshop with First Nations artist Lee George, a proud Wulgurukaba woman from Yunbenun Country. Lee facilitated the workshop with 14 women, who learned to weave their own jewellery by hand with her guidance.

The workshop brought together women from a diverse range of ages, cultures and backgrounds to learn a traditional weaving practice while creating their own individual pieces. As the day progressed, women shared their work, exchanged ideas, encouraged one another and connected through the experience of learning and creating together.

The workshop provided an opportunity to engage with First Nations knowledge, art and culture in a hands-on and meaningful way, while creating space for conversation, cultural appreciation and connection between women. The relaxed environment allowed conversations and connections to develop naturally as women worked alongside one another and took pride in the pieces they created.

The warm and inclusive event demonstrated how art and cultural practice can bring people together and create genuine connections within the community.
