Clean Up Australia Day 2026: Find Your Local Event and Make a Difference

Every piece of litter removed from our waterways is a life saved. For Clean Up Australia Day in 2026, Conservation Volunteers Australia is mobilising communities across the country to protect our beaches, wetlands, and rivers that sustain our incredible marine life.

Why Clean-Ups Matter

Marine debris is a deadly threat to the biodiversity that surrounds us. Plastic bags are mistaken for jellyfish by sea turtles that ingest them. Fishing line entangles seabirds and fish. Microplastics infiltrate entire food chains. When we remove rubbish from waterways and beaches, we’re directly preventing wildlife injuries, deaths, and habitat degradation.

Our waterways are interconnected ecosystems where rivers flow into wetlands, wetlands filter into estuaries, and estuaries meet the ocean. Protecting one means protecting them all, and Clean Up Australia Day gives us a powerful opportunity to take collective action.

Join us for Clean Up Australia Day 2026

As part of our broader campaign to safeguard Australia’s aquatic ecosystems, we’re hosting clean-up events across five states throughout late February and March. Whether you’re in Perth, Hobart, Adelaide, or Brisbane, there’s an event near you.

Clean-Up Event in Brisbane: Suttons Beach

πŸ“Friday, 27th March 2026 | 10:00am | Register here

Take action on ocean litter as part of #SeaToSource Moreton Bay. Suttons Beach connects to Moreton Bay, supporting dugongs, dolphins, turtles, and migratory shorebirds. Reduce the plastic pollution harming marine life while enjoying the coastline. Bring long trousers, a shirt, a hat, sturdy footwear, water, and snacks.

What to Expect

We provide everything you need: gloves, bags, litter pickers, and safety equipment. Just bring:

  • Your enthusiasm and energy
  • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, water bottle)
  • Closed-toe shoes suitable for uneven terrain
  • Weather-appropriate clothing

Our experienced Project Officers will guide you through the event, share insights about local ecosystems, and ensure your volunteer experience is safe, educational, and rewarding.

The Impact We’ll Make Together

Every Clean Up Australia Day event contributes to:

  • Immediate wildlife protection – removing debris before animals can ingest it or become entangled
  • Data collection – recording rubbish types helps identify pollution sources and inform policy
  • Habitat restoration – cleaner dunes, wetlands, and waterways support healthier ecosystems

Community connection – inspiring others to reduce single-use plastics and change consumption habits.
