Celebrating a year of hands-on conservation with Woodside Energy

This year marked a meaningful chapter in our partnership with Woodside Energy, as employees and their families came together through our Woodside Revive Volunteering Program of conservation-focused volunteering opportunities. From creative in-office sessions to family-friendly field activities, we had some great staff engagement and conservation outcomes.

Across the year, our events provided practical ways for staff to connect with nature, support local environmental groups and our initiatives, and strengthen bonds across teams, families and communities.

Engaging families through hands-on learning

Two in-office volunteer sessions created opportunities for staff as well as families, to participate in hands-on activities, supporting our Revive our Wetlands, Nature Blocks and Sea to Source initiatives.

The Nature Blocks session invited families to get their hands dirty by creating native nature pot plants, encouraging young minds to explore native species and the role plants play in creating healthy ecosystems, supporting native wildlife species, pollination and biodiversity. The activity offered a relaxed, creative introduction to conservation concepts while fostering shared learning experiences between parents and children.

Overall, we had 80 staff and children involved in our in-office activities. We re-potted 200 native plants, creating habitats for wildlife and insects; we created 150 SeaToSource litter kits to provide to schools and students we work with; and we made 100 seed bombs and 50 seed paper items to gift to our volunteering community during upcoming Revive our Wetland events.

Practical conservation in the field

Beyond the office, Woodside employees and their families also took part in a range of family-friendly, in-field conservation activities, supporting their local environment through hands-on action.

Participants worked together on activities designed to be accessible, educational and impactful, allowing families to engage directly with the landscape and ecosystems they were helping protect. These activities included removing litter from coastal and foreshore sites, and conducting litter surveys of their findings.

Looking ahead

As we reflect on the year we’ve had, this partnership has highlighted how conservation volunteering – whether in the office, in the field, or alongside family – creates meaningful connections between people, place and purpose.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Woodside Energy, building on this year’s momentum and creating even more opportunities for Woodside employees and their families to engage in environmental stewardship in the year ahead.
